LOTHAR MYCK

Lothar Myck is a Canadian Multi-instrumentalist, Songwriter and Producer. His music explores everything from the depths of lush and artificial synth driven music, to harsh and aggressive metal, and disco inspired dance and electronic music. Myck focuses heavily on instrumental music and explores the medium of being a solo artist.

Myck's debut album "Professional Hostility was only released physically in the end of 2019. It's limited run boasted 9 instrumental tracks, as well as an unreleased demo track. The genre of the album ranged from synth-driven soundtrack material to rock, metal and one bossa nova track. Many of the ideas on the album inspired and later led to his synth and guitar led style found on his later albums.

His second album "Night Drive" explores the depths of Synthwave music drawing heavy inspiration from 80's Horror and Sci-Fi movies. Synthesizers and drums machines are featured prominently on the album, as well as electric guitars. All 10 instrumental tracks were performed, recorded and mixed by Lothar Myck. The retro futuristic album was released in January of 2020.

His third studio effort "AP", is a concept album/soundtrack to a short story of the same name also written by Myck. The story follows a detective in the 23rd century, who learns of a humanitarian terrorist groups schemes, and must single handedly take them down. The music follows the story, and captures the atmosphere of the dark futuristic setting. The album has similar musical and aesthetic qualities to "Night Drive", but contains more structured songs and hooks. "AP" is also available to stream and purchase on bandcamp as of November 22nd 2020. Myck's second album also features a physical CD + Signed Softcover Book release available through bandcamp.

Late summer 2021 saw the release of "Journey of the Slug" a prog rock super suite. This single was

the first piece of music by Myck to have an official music video. The video in question was directed, shot, and edited by Geoff Johnson, and showcases the beautiful landscapes and scenery of the west coast of Canada. This project was made with assistance from the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust through the Small Neighborhood Grants initiative.

Halloween, 2021 marked a dramatic change in style for Myck. On this fateful, spooky evening he released his first heavy metal E.P. The title track of this re-debut was also the first release to feature Lothar on vocals. A fervent display of esteem to past post-metal and industrial acts such as Godflesh and Pelican, this album is a successful journey through uncharted territory for this artist. On the 2 song E.P. Myck swaps his usual lush, synth and retro instrumental accompaniment for harsh, heavy, distorted electric guitars, bass, and static, post-human drumbeats. "In Misery" is available on most major streaming platforms.

On June 30th 2022, Lothar released his most ambitious project to date, "2202". This new album is a collection of short form concept pieces (and one long form) that were created between January and May of 2022. The album contains 5 songs, all tied together by a sonic concept and sci-fi/fantasy subject matter. The third track "Zombi Suburbs" features an impressive collaboration with filmmaker and cinematographer Geoff Johnson in the form of an official music video. This can be viewed on Lothar Myck's YouTube channel. The title track is over 20 minutes in length and takes the listener on a journey through a retro futuristic journey with protagonist the "Neo-Sorcerer" who has set off to fight an ancient foe, the "Vampire Snake God". "2202" also has a physical release (which is available on bandcamp) that shows off it's impressive album cover courtesy of NASA. Also on Myck's bandcamp are T-shirts showing off detailed artwork of the Vampire Snake God (done by Koyah Morgan).

In November of 2022 the acclaimed collaboration "CAUTION" was released. The track featured a catchy dance chorus sung through a vocoder and shimmering guitar leads and funk patterns. The highlight of the track however, was the rap done by featured artist KEL-TON. The single was released on November 10th, with an official music video following one week later.

Early Winter, 2022 saw the release of the instrumental E.P. "Graupel". The 5 tracks make up one single longer form concept piece based on the mysterious inhabitants of a frozen cave on the first snow of winter. Visually inspired by Phill Tippett's "MAD GOD" and the first snowstorm of the year, Myck set out to create a short and impactful audio journey. The sonic qualities reminisce in early experimental electronic influence. The E.P. opens and closes with an infinitely looping atmospheric soundscape.
